Model is around 20k tris, 4 texture sets (stock parts, receiver parts, post and bolt)
Base in 3DS Max, high poly in Zbrush and low poly again in Max. Rendered in Marmoset Toolbag 3, textured in Substance Painter. Final touches in Photoshop.
Most of the references were gathered from Google Images and from watching numerous hours of disassembly videos to try to be as accurate as possible. A special thanks goes to 7.62x54r.net as it was a literal goldmine of information about decals, model versions, origins, mechanics and most of all high resolution pictures of the individual pieces.
This was definitely a huge learning experience for me in modeling an asset start to finish as i tried to push the final quality as high as i could. Next step is to make it game ready by optimizing the polygon count and improve the textures.
